No raving lunatic commentary today just the fun stuff!

Anyone remember the Atari 2600? Of course you do! Did you know there are people still making games for it! Wow! A 2 word Word document contains 5 times the amount of memory that a 2600 game had! Amazing that they could do so much with what they had!

Could this be the end of COMDEX?!?! I heard this 2 or 3 years ago... I also heard that it might move to Houston! How cool would that be!

SPEED OF LIGHT?!! Come on CNN!

Should we keep the space program... should we keep having manned space flight!?!? My friend G sent me this link
The Space Shuttle Must Be Stopped
. It is not an article about the SS but more about money being spent on manned space flight. Should we stop manned space flight HELL NO! The drive to go to space is was makes us great! At the time I read the article I decided to respond to it... here is that response...
What a bunch of crap! I'm guessing the writer does not enjoy any of the things space flight has brought to him... like the Satellite TV or the ability to broadcast his news story around the world in seconds... BS! The shuttle may not have met expectations but it is the thing that got us there. Man space flight must happen it is the thing that make this country great... the exploration and attempts to overcome the bounds of gravity generate so much more science revelations that the cost, any cost, is almost worth it. This article is not about the shuttle but more about the need to stop manned space flight. Yes and next we'll put a wall around the US and establish a dictator to tell us what to do and how to think! This borders on traitorous tripe is you ask me... nuff said.
This says exactly what I am talking about! You live because they died making your life a MUCH better place!

Ok I am not going to dwell on the SS thing but this has some very provocative things to say.

Did you know that DVDs can ROT? your collection may not live forever!

Imagine the day when you can just print yourself a new computer. It could happen very soon! I can see it now! Open source cpu prints this could be very cool!

How many of you out there have had to help a relative with a computer problem? Is it chronic? Well my friend R sent me a link that might be something you need to consider. SHOULD MY LOVED ONE BE PLACED IN AN ASSISTED COMPUTING FACILITY? It's a tough question we must all face one day!

    frowny :: posted 1:09:54 PM :: comments(0) ::permalink

First let me say what a tragedy. I am sympathetic so no matter what you hear in this rant don't think I'm not... Several days ago I blogged about the Challenger explosion damn I feel prophetic almost! On Saturday morning I got a call from G about 8:10am telling me that we had lost communication with the space shuttle. I flipped on the TV and immediately had a flashback to the Challenger incident. I was amazed to see the video of shuttle streaking across the sky about Dallas. With reporters wondering what if anything was wrong. I called a my friend in Dallas and told him about it and as I did the showed the video of the streak and there was decidely 2 streaks now and little puffs as well. There seemed to be no doubt what happened the shuttle had come apart. A few phone calls to family (mom and dad in Vegas!) and I was back in front of the TV watching in amazement. Soon enough reports are rolling in about debris on the ground and then there is the amazing weather radar shots of the debris! Incredible! I was supposed to be working on a web site that day but I could not work. It was like I was drunk?!?

For the first time since the invention of the internet I could not get enough data!

I wanted more more more! and I all I could get were little bits of this and that. With Challenger I got plenty because I was not jaded by the bandwidth the internet gives me. I have become acustom to finding the data I need almost instantly and as much as I want. With Challenger we saw the explosion, it was there and then it wasn't. Then there was 911 so many things were happening so fast and you saw the buildings come down. They were there then they were not. I found myself inventing fantasies about escape pods and intact crew compartments. I could not get enough data! The feeling of frustration was coursing through me and it induced drunkeness. I cannot explain it, even as I write this I feel it to a degree.

Now before you say it, every station was on and every station had the same things and every station showed the same thing over and over for way to long. I know it is a spectacular event but it was only 7 people. 10 times that many have died on our raods from drunk drivers since the incident. yet I do not see people, myself included, caring about that?!? why is that... I feel unworthy as a human.

That night I took Dade to see the Monster trucks again. I wasn't going to but they were having a very good line up and they did not dissapoint! Three rollovers and some pretty impressive crashes and near misses. Maximum Destruction was all the way 90 degrees sideways and saved it! Fun night for Dade and me. Funny thing is I felt guilty for enjoying myself after the shuttle deal. I guess that is the definition of bittersweet.

Ok only if you are freak about LOTR will you know what was supposed to be said, but this is still quite funny. Engrish TTT Captions yes Engrish!

Do you use IE? Have you recently noticed your homepage has changed and there is some new toolbar on your system? You are not alone! Wired and Slashdot point out "the most evil thing on the Internet" is the new toolbar from Xupiter. It installs itself, then resets your homepage. Then keeps itself loaded when you try to remove it! NASTY NASTY NASTY!

The State of Union... I guess I am becoming more Republican all the time! I just cannot get over what I hear when the Dems spout off. Is it just me or do they have a platform at all? It seem as though Bush did not have any Dem bashing at all and that guy from the Dems all he did was bash Bush. Half of the words he spoke were "tonight you heard Bush wants this but we want this other thing..." It's always the same too... Take from the rich and give to the poor. Did anyone even read the thing I had about taxes about 10 posts back? It kills me that because this country is mostly supported by the top 10% of wage earners that they would want to not give those guys a break, instead they would rather take more $$$ from those 10% and give it to the other 90% of the country! No wonder the top 10% are looking for ways to hide money from the tax man... give him an inch and ... On top of that Bush wanted to cut taxes equally across the board... does this not sound fair to you? Incredible... and with the Iraq thing... my dad sent me a joke today that really does illustrate this thinking!

The Difference Between The Liberal and Conservative "Debate" Over The War On Terrorism:

Question: You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner and is running at you while screaming obscenities. In your hand is a compact 9mm and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?
    ___________________________________________________________
    Liberal Answer:

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that is inspiring him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me or would he just be content to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for a
few days to try to come to a conclusion.
    __________________________________________________________
    Conservative Answer:

    BANG!
    __________________________________________________________
    Texan's Answer:

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click... (sounds of magazine being ejected and fresh magazine installed)

Wife: "Sweetheart, he looks like he's still moving, what do you kids think?"
Son: "Mom's right Dad, I saw it too..."
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Daughter: "Nice group, Dad, but you wouldn't have needed so much ammo with a .45!"

I know it's funny but it's true! We told Saddam 11 years ago disarm or else... he didn't, we told him again more recently disarm or else, he didn't, so then we told him show us you've disamed or else(the most recent U.N. Resoltuion)... or else what!?!?
Two years ago the Dems told Bush get the U.N. resolution before you move on Iraq, HE DID! No! Wait they said, you didn't ask congress for permision so HE DID and they GRANTED IT! Now, they are saying no wait you have to ask again! BULLSHIT! We are starting to look like pussies! The Dems, who have no platform to stand on, either hope the economy goes tits up or/and we do not go to war with Iraq. If either of these thing happen they are sunk. Guess what the economy is turning around, it's slow and but it is growth check the numbers for yourself! and you know what putting your politics and your re-election chances before the safety of my family and my country! What if your wrong, what if we wait and you get elected and then they nuke every city in the US with a dirty nuke or some of that Anthrax that we KNOW they have! What then! Assholes! You heard what Bush said last night! He gave you 3 smoking guns and Hans Blix gace you an unfavorable report as well, and how do you respond... by trying to pass another bill requiring, yet again, permission from congress to move forward.
Stepping off the soapbox.... sorry about that! Let's lighten up a bit...

Better go look at this site quickly I see C&D coming any day now!

I think an open source encylopedia is such a brilliant idea! This should have been done sooner!

Before 911 THE event that floored me more than any other was the day the Space Shuttle exploded. I was youngish in college and this event was a huge wake up for me... maybe we couldn't do anything, maybe the 80's were to good to be true! Yesterday was the anniversary of that event. Challanger explodes on this day in 1986. I was gutted for several days after this. Even now as I read the story it send chills down my back!

Superbowl weekend! Snooooozzzzeee... if I had to pick 2 teams I did not want to see play it owuld have been these 2. I like Mike Allstott and that is it! Snooze'ville! Anyway Friday Angie and I took Dade to see Kanagaroo Jack... pretty cool! It was not bad at all... then the hilight of the weekend, I know this sounds crazy but I found a copy of Pee Wee's Big Adventure in the $5 bin at Walfart. Anyway Dade wanted to watch something else but we ended up putting this on on Saturday night. First did you kjnow this was directed by Tim Burton? COOL! Secondly if you have not seen this in awhile it's worth seeing again, I laughed and laughed so hard that my teeth dried out from smiling. Damn! "No I really am in Texas listen... The stars at night are big and bright!" and then there's the part where he can't remember anything from falling off the bull, 10 cowboys standing around him and he says "I remember, um, I remember, The Alamo!" and of course who could forget the whole "tequila" dance! v.funny!

The word is out if we go to war with Iraq, we are going to throw twice as many missles at them in 2 days as we did in the whole damn Gulf War last time.

Speaking of war P sent me this video from an AC130 gunship put the f'in hurt on some Taliban camp and cave. It's 7 minutes long and if you watch closely you can see the bodys flying near the end... damn they put the hurt on these guys!

Did you guys think the SuperBowl Ads were a bit lacking this year? I think the upside down guy wanting a hotdog was funny and the Zebra thing was cute. If you missed them they are here. But be warned they are slow right now!

One of the ones that did stand out was the Matrix ad for the 2 new movies this year... yes 2 one in May (Reloaded) and then one in November (Revolution). See the trailer here they have a dedicated server just for the trailer so you can get it. WOW! It looks damn cool! This brings up a subject I've approached before. The Matrix if heavily influenced by some serious religious undertones! My friend E sent me this link eons ago but I think it illustrates the point so well. Just to wet your whistle, isn't it odd how Neo aka the One (Neo rearranged) dies and is resurrected? and along the way he is betrayed by Judas errr Cypher and what happens at the end of the movie? He ascends... into heaven. very interesting paralells here.

BTW if you noticed the internet being slow this weekend you weren't the only one. The Slammer virus ran wild all weekend infecting SQL servers around the world and at one point almost crippling the internet with a sort of denial of service attack. CRAZY!

Not today, my head hurts and I'm tired, I'll be back tomorrow.

    CAN YOU BELIEVE WE SURVIVED?
    by Anonymous

    Can you believe we survived?

If you lived as a child in the 40's, 50's, 60's or 70's.

Looking back, it's hard to believe that we have lived as long as we have...

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paint. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors, or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets.

(Not to mention hitchhiking to town as a young kid!)

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. Horrors.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times we learned to solve the problem.

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day.

No cell phones. Unthinkable. We played dodgeball and sometimes the ball would really hurt. We got cut and broke bones and broke teeth, and there were no law suits from these accidents. They were accidents. No one was to blame, but us. Remember accidents?

We had fights and punched each other and got black and blue and learned to get over it.

We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank sugar soda but we were never overweight...we were always outside playing. We shared one grape soda with four friends, from one bottle and no one died from this.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, video games at all, 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones, Personal Computers, Internet chat rooms ...We had friends. We went outside and found them. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on the door, or rung the bell or just walked in and talked to them.

Imagine such a thing. Without asking parent! By ourselves! Out there in the cold cruel world! Without a guardian. How did we do it?

We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't, had to learn to deal with disappointment.....Some students weren't as smart as others so they failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same grade.....Horrors. Tests were not adjusted for any reason.

Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. No one to hide behind. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law, imagine that!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years has been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

    ...AND YOU'RE ONE OF THEM!

    Congratulations!
