Long time no bloggy! I know... I suck. whatever, if you know me you know I've been jammed up to the gills with stuff!
Let me start a few weeks back... We went to San Antonio on one day deal to troop the American Cancer Society's Halloween Costume Party. Basically all kids with cancer in SA were invited along with their families... Dade trooped this one with me and he did fantastic. Highlights for me were once a little girl about 4 latched on to my leg and would not let go... we ended up on the dance floor but it was short lived because several other 'troopers joined in and off she went. A little later I was working the costume contest on stage... I was standing off stage and telling the kids when they could go out... well I am holding them back when I feel a different little girl grab my hand. When it was her turn to go she would not budge or let go! So what's a trooper to do? I escorted her to center stage and then did a little pirouette, the smile on her face was priceless it was very cool! I also got beaten up by a ninja, learned how to kick a soccer ball and posed for many many pictures. All of this was very bittersweet though, you see it was a costume contest and every kid was wearing a number around their neck in the shape of a bat or a pumpkin. I found out that the pumpkins were cancer kids... from that moment on all I could see were pumpkins! I have to say these kids are strong and resilient and an inspiration, I am very glad I had a bucket on my head that day as I am sure my emotions would have been given away had you seen my face. These kids though... smiles and smiles and energy and love. I hope to see them ALL next year!
Ok... zoom ahead to the next weekend... Friday night I trooped a teachers benefit at the Space Center Houston. It was a hoot! Those teachers get a little crazy when you mix them with Margaritas and some strapping armor clad lads. Got home went straight to bed and up early for another troop! 8am I was at Reliant for an Autism walk. Now there were only 3 troopers for this event but we had two ladies there also dressed, one as an Imperial Officer and one as Mara Jade... So we 3 troopers walk out on to the floor of Reliant and within 50 feet a circular wall 5 people deep forms around us. For 45 minutes we stay rooted to that spot taking picture after picture. At some point we got called to the stage for crowd control to which the MC put on the Star Wars theme song for us ... it was a very geeky cool moment. There were a ton of happy people that day and the Walk raised a ton of money !
phew... I am exhausted but pressing on the next day (Sunday for those keeping score) Angie, Dade and I went to Ren Fest in our new garb...It was as magical as it ever was and we had a great time!
... moving on... Wednesday comes!!! All Hallows Eve! Well with it being mid week I did not do a blow out but I did do the yard in big fashion as always. As always we crammed a jillion people through the yard and met all the neighbors and and and and... awesome as ever... next year BTW is the return of the Haunted House so make your plans now!
Finally we are catching up to this weekend!
So since we did not have a party for Dade's birthday we decided to take him to Dallas to 1. Play paintball and 2. Go Medieval Times!
Paintball... it was great! It was as fun as I remember. Dade got a cheap "too close" shot in the leg that hurt him pretty bad but after a short rest he was back in the fray and shooting himself out of paint and air! It was great fun! E and Z were there with us and we all came home with war wounds and plenty of stories!
Medieval Times, if you've never been I highly recommend it! Basically you eat dinner(with your hands!) While watching a highly produced jousting, knightly battling, horse show thing... it was great fun cheering on your knight and rooting against the bad guy... horses running at top speed around this arena 10 feet from you while you are chowing down... awesome fun!
Well that ought to catch you up on my last 3 weeks... I'll try and be better about blogging... next on the plate, Thursday I going back to Space Center Houston to film a commercial for the new Star Wars Exhibit, then Dec 1st, Dade and I are doing the Children's Parade in Dallas. We'll be on national TV for that one! I am looking for sponsorship still if you know of a corporation that wants some TV time... $5k is the minimum, and it's all to benefit the Texas Children's Medical Center in Ft.Worth.
