A few years ago... maybe 15! I went to a HAL-PC meeting here in Houston. It was a local area user group that had a 1000 members or so and would meet monthly to exchange info and knowledge and occasionally parts... The meetings would get 300 people pretty regularly and were entertaining. Then the internet hit the big time! I took a friend to one of the these meetings. He had just gotten the internet and like everyone was talking about all the pr0n on it and what not and how he'd found a chat room and was talking to girls in there. I told him look around... the 40year old fat bald geeks are who you are talking to, not some 18 year old blond nympho with giant hogans and no inhibitions. Anyway I thought of this moment when I read the this article ... it's a very telling article about chatting online. I tell everyone the same thing, don't do it with people you do not know, nothing good can come of it.

I wonder... I like to wear my Trooper gear so very much. As soon as I put it on I am someone else... and someone that everyone recognizes and has a love hate relationship with. So does this mean I want to be someone else, even for a short amount of time? or am I looking for attention, love or hate? or do I really do it for the joy it brings to others. I keep trying to justify it that way, but it does not always hold water. I think I do it for me I mean I love Star Wars... the first time I donned the gear I got a euphoric charge better than any drug... and I was alone. The first time I went into public in gear was the parade in Dallas(see post in Dec 06) when we came out people rushed us like rock stars. It was as scary as it was fun. Since that time I've put the gear on for me and for charity. Lately I've been wanting more. I am puting together my Renaissance persona right now and i have to admit I am pretty psyched up about it. In addition to that I want a Vader, Sandtrooper, Master Chief and Predator costume as well. Troubling this all is...or exhilaratingly.
