Did you take 3 minutes out of your life to go and see the ISS/Shuttle? Dallas, your turn is tonight! Angie,Janet,Dade and I went out a little early not sure what we were going to see... I remember as a kid laying in my driveway and seeing a satelite flying overhead, it looked like a fast moving star. At 8:50 it was still a bit of blue in the sky, and after a few "is that it"'s a very bright star rose right where we were looking! It was moving boy howdy fast, straight up and overhead brighter than any star in the sky. The reality is it was nothing more than a speck of light, but when you stop and think about what you were seeing you get that sense of awe. You could see the wonder in Dade's eyes just filling up and he was impossibly excited after that. So for about 5 minutes we stood outside, necks craned back staring up. I guess that's 5 whole minutes of TV I'll never get back...and I am gratefull for the opportunity.
Dead men tell no tales...
On another note we went to see Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest this weekend. First it's been getting some not so hot reviews... I do not know why?! To many movie reviewers go looking for the next movie full of symbolism and deep meaning. They are missing the point! Movies are about entertainment! The story does not have to be layered and deep it has to be entertaining. 30 minutes in my son leans over and says "wow this is really good!" and it was! It was Disney! It was Swiss Family Robinson Disney, it was fun fun fun! Yes there were special effects no it did not ruin the movie. Hey there were lot's of effects int he first one too! I loved it! Is it the greatest movie ever ... nope, will I watch it again and again yes! Did I hate the ending... yes. Well I guess I will have to reserve judgement until I see the ending in the next movie, they pulled a cliffhanger on us. Get yourself a bucket of popcorn, sit back and enjoy it for what it is! They say the plot is to twisted to follow... well my 8 year old handled it just fine.
Interesting thing about the title, "Dead Man's Chest". The title is a line from a poem in the book "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson. According to the Wiki the poem was expanded and there is some history that it may be based on. As legend has it Blackbeard the pirate thwarted a mutiny and marooned the mutinous crew on a deserted island called "Dead Man's Chest" each of the men was given a sword and a bottle of rum... yo ho ho! Blackbeard came back a month later and 15 men(on a dead man's chest) had survived the druken brawls that had insued.
If you have the NASA channel you should be watching it right now!!!! Live video of the spacewalk super.cool!
If you want to see the ISS and Shuttle with the naked eye Sunday and Monday just before 9p is your best time. Go to Nasa's Sat Tracking Page to see when any satelite will be visible. Just punch in your zip and go. When you hit the skytrack button it will show a map of the sky. The orange line is the horizon. V.cool this is! Weather permitting we will go and watch it Sunday and Monday.
My family paused today to watch as these brave men and women lanched into space. I have to admit my heart sang and my eyes welled up. Space exploration is a dangerous affair and the act of taking off despite a piece of foam falling off yesterday is the story here. Congrats to all those involved and may there be many more.
I'm going to see STS-115 in person. Joe Tanner http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/Bios/htmlbios/tanner.html
invited my family to go watch it launch. I guess we get some type of VIP pass and get to see it a little closer than the general public. The launch window is Aug 28th - Sep 14th. It should be pretty badass in person.
I have been using my autoposter to much lately. I think it does not allow my personal touches to come through as much as a hands on blog entry... so here you go a real old school non-automated blog entry... there might be some autoposted links later in the day.
I am in the market for a new MP3 player... maybe. I am about to finally get a new phone and the new phone is completely capable of most of these features. Namely FM, music and movies. The phone I am looking at can take the memory stick right out of my PSP and play the movies on my phone! I like that! Anyway MP3 lusty time...
This player is about to be released in the US and is one of my top contenders.
It's called the Meizu miniPlayer it's from China and it's going to be an Apple killer.
Next on my list is the Creative Zen V Plus
I like the size of this player smaller than the Nano albeit twice as thick, it will work well in the gym. It has FM, mp3 and movie playback. The screen even self orients when you turn it around. Plus a name like Creative I can trust.
The only problem with both of these units is capacity. They are going to max out at 4gigs. Now that is flash based so good for running and other activity but it's still a bit on the low side. I think in the end I may end up with a high capacity unit and work out unit. There are rumors that by the end of the year the Nano and other flash Apple based players will have 12g of goodness and there is a hack for watching video on a Nano now, but the screen is to small for that when on a treadmill so they will have to make that better and there is the question of will I use it?
I have a PSP that is capable of the all of these things now. I also have a Neuros recorder that record directly to the memory stick for playback on the PSP and yet the PSP has never seent he inside of a gym. I don't know I do know I am tired of hearing the same music on my Rio. (the cable got stolen years ago and there is no replacement as the unit is to old) I have another MP3 unit for running, but the batteries have failed on it now and they are not user replaceable. Why do these manufacturers do these things!
Enough of all that maybe I'll just but my Sony w810i and be done with it.

So how do you stop that fleeing felon? High speed car chases are about to become a thing of the past. this article describes how the police are going to start tagging cars with GPS darts so they don't have to chase them. They just track them at the station then move in once they stop moving.
The other day I blogged about a rapid fire rubberband gun made from Legos. How about this!
Lego Crossbow! v.cool!
