Last night's game was how Little League shuold be. It was a hard fought game that was never more than 3 runs apart... lot's of fun, no controversy. Dade went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs and almost went for the cycle. Single,Double,Triple... 2 batters away from his 4th AB... I wanted to see him go for it!
Big thanks to all the Bday well wishers... you know who you are... BTW it's 20-19, I refuse to leave my 20s! I guess I got one more year till I have to get the finger... I guess a finger up the butt is better than cancer up the butt!
Anyway we won last night 9-1 in 3 1/2 innings. The kids looked real good and the other team called mercy in the end. I was a bit upset that we didn't get another at bat for the kids, but I guess there are going to be games like that. It's really good to see the kids respond. We are trying to teach the kids baseball and let them play. Instead of just game situations, kinda like a foundation thing. Anyway the more they play the better they do. Rubber match with the Dodgers tomorrow at high noon!
After the loss in extra innings on Saturday fate had it where we played the same team again on Tuesday. Again we were the home team and again it started out like a squeaker. In the top of the 1st they went 1,2,3 one out being on a good play by us. In the bottom the we 1,2 and just when you thought here we go again Dade came up and got us started. So with 2 outs we get back to back hits putting runners on 1st and 3rd and our catcher came up. Now he's been in a slump lately and for the last 2 games has not hit the ball at all. 1st pitch line drive past the pitcher rolled all the way to the centerfield fence! He made it all the way around for a Homerun!
During the game we had good plays all around... twice we gunned down runners at 3rd base and we had very few strikeouts. Everyone played great. They did not get a runner to 3rd until the 5th inning. We won 6-0.
Proud I was... now the rubber match on Saturday at noon!
Oh the joy and pain of Little League...
Someday my son will read this and be embarrased I'm sure... Saturday was the most fun I've ever had in a game that we lost 3-7. First it was a make up game, so right off the bat it's odd. Next we have a kid not show up, Well no subs so that makes that easier. Anyway on to the game... First I could not be more proud of my kids! They were looking so good in the field throwing kids out from SS and 3rd to 1st with ease... I can't tell you how many 6-3 and 1-3 plays we made and the 5-3 was spectacular! So the game dwindles down and it's looking like a squeaker... going into the bottom of the final inning (6th) we were behind 3-2... our first guy strikes out, 2nd batter single he steals 2nd and 3rd on the next AB while that guy strikes out. This brings up Dade... so man on 3rd 2 out bottom of the 6th 2 strikes .... no pressure. I have to preface this with that fact on the previous AB Dade hit one to the fence, so the other team is a bit back. Dade drills one right up the middle past the pitcher and between the 2nd and SS. TIE! Dade's on 1st. Next batter get's bloop right over the 2nd base bag. Dade beats them there but he overuns the bag thinking he's going on to 3rd and get's tagged out. Now the rules are something like games ending in a tie will get restarted at a later date. There game is over there is a handshake and everyone gathers the gear. ... WAIT! there is still time left? what do we do? well after much debate we play on... end of the 7th still tied?!? now what? Game over we'll make it up later we start clearing our gear... oh wait get your gloves... One more inning let's finish this. Come on! They proceed to score 4 and blow it open, we played hard but in the end ran out of gas. It was still very satisfying. Now there is game under protest sort of... is that fair to make them keep playing? I had 2 kids asking to sit out an inning becuase they were to tired. the board will decide the true fate of that game and in the meantime we have a rematch on Tuesday! Let's hope it's not the same way! 3 out of 4 games so far this year have come down to the last AB for us! ack... my heart can't take it.
The kids got tired? Playing baseball? Unless they have some type of medical condition, I think that's pretty sad. Sounds like you had fun though and I bet you may have another hundred games or more to go watch him play.
I have to somewhat agree with S. Kids getting tired of playing baseball to the point that they are asking to sit out of a game! What happened to wanting to win and team? Jeeze! I guess they don't make kids the way they used too. They sit half of the game as it is. It is just another example of the problems with kids today, they don't get enough excercise, and they get way to much coddling. God Help Us!
Look I have to defend the kids. It really was an exhausting game. I was spent at the end as well. Those kids were out there in it not on the sidelines. I will say that most of my kids have waaaay more energy than I do and I think it was just to mentally taxing. The pressure was high the whole game, 1 run or tied through and through and they have been programmed to go 1 1/2 hours anything past that and it's like keeping them up past bedtime, they just wilt. I don't fault them at all...

I remember playing baseball, football and basketball until it got too dark to see or my parents made me come inside to eat or do homework but that was a long long time ago.
